How this was worked out
- Net taxable pay (net imposable) €32,803.60; net pay before income tax €31,663.84.
- Income tax at a household rate of 6.0%, worked out with 1 part and the latest official barème (for 2025 income); the barème for 2026 income is set at the end of 2026.
- Statutory contributions only: your mutuelle and prévoyance contributions, which depend on your employer's contract, are not included.
- Annual figures for 2026: contributions worked out per month to the cent and multiplied by 12, income tax to the nearest euro. Your prélèvement à la source rate comes from your last tax return, so the tax withheld during 2026 can differ from this estimate; the difference is settled after your 2027 return.

How it works
This salary calculator for France converts a gross salary (salaire brut) into net pay (net) for 2026. Enter your pay per year, month or hour, choose cadre or non-cadre and your household, and it deducts your social contributions (CSG, CRDS, state and supplementary pension), then estimates income tax taken at source (prélèvement à la source) and shows your net pay a year and a month.
Contributions use the 2026 rates and the €48,060 social security ceiling (PASS). Income tax uses the latest official barème, with household parts (quotient familial), the 10% allowance for work expenses and the décote for small tax bills. A single non-cadre on €40,000 gross keeps €29,696.84 a year after contributions and income tax, or €2,474.74 a month.
Everything is calculated in your browser. This is a simplified model for a private-sector employee, not tax advice: mutuelle and prévoyance contributions (which depend on your employer's contract), overtime relief, profit sharing, the Alsace-Moselle scheme and income other than salaries are not included.
Take-home pay on common salaries (2026)
Figures for a single non-cadre private-sector employee with no children in 2026, statutory contributions only (no mutuelle or prévoyance) and income tax with the latest official barème.

From salaire brut to net: what is deducted
French payslips take off employee social contributions first. The largest are the CSG (9.2%) and CRDS (0.5%), charged on almost all of your gross pay, then the state pension (assurance vieillesse) and the AGIRC-ARRCO supplementary pension, which have a lower rate up to the monthly ceiling of €4,005 and a higher one above it. Health and unemployment insurance cost employees nothing: the employer pays them.
What is left is your net pay before income tax (net à payer avant impôt). Your employer then deducts income tax at your personal rate (prélèvement à la source), which gives the net paid into your account.
- Cadres pay the same statutory contributions plus a small APEC contribution (0.024%). Other differences on a real payslip, such as prévoyance, mutuelle or supplementary pension schemes, depend on the employer's contract and are not included here.
- Your net taxable pay (net imposable) is higher than your net pay because the non-deductible part of the CSG (2.4%) and the CRDS are taxed.
How income tax is worked out
Income tax is charged on the household's taxable income. From your net taxable pay a 10% allowance for work expenses is taken off (at most €14,555), the result is divided by the household's parts (1 for a single person, 2 for a couple, plus half a part for each of the first two children and one for each further child), the barème is applied to one part and the tax multiplied back. The saving from children is capped at €1,807 per half part, and small tax bills are reduced by the décote.
The tax on 2026 income will use the barème set by the loi de finances pour 2027, which is not yet known. This calculator uses the latest official barème, the one for 2025 income (nothing up to €11,600 per part, then 11%, 30% and up to 45%). The barème is usually indexed to inflation each year, so the final tax on 2026 income may differ slightly from this estimate.
Employee social contributions 2026 (private sector)
| Contribution | Employee rate | On pay |
|---|---|---|
| State pension (vieillesse plafonnée) | 6.9% | Up to €4,005 a month (€48,060 a year) |
| State pension (vieillesse déplafonnée) | 0.4% | All pay |
| AGIRC-ARRCO tranche 1 + CEG | 3.15% + 0.86% | Up to €4,005 a month |
| AGIRC-ARRCO tranche 2 + CEG | 8.64% + 1.08% | €4,005 to €32,040 a month |
| CET | 0.14% | All pay up to €32,040 a month, only when pay is above €4,005 |
| APEC (cadres only) | 0.024% | Up to €16,020 a month |
| CSG (deductible + non-deductible) | 6.8% + 2.4% | 98.25% of pay up to €192,240 a year, 100% above |
| CRDS | 0.5% | Same base as CSG |
| Health and unemployment insurance | 0% | Paid by the employer |
Net taxable pay (net imposable) adds the non-deductible 2.4% CSG and the CRDS back to your net pay, because they are taxed. Mutuelle and prévoyance contributions depend on your employer's contract and are not included.
Income tax barème (latest official, 2025 income)
| Income per part | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to €11,600 | 0% |
| €11,601 to €29,579 | 11% |
| €29,580 to €84,577 | 30% |
| €84,578 to €181,917 | 41% |
| Over €181,917 | 45% |
The barème applies to taxable income divided by the household's parts, and the result is multiplied back. Taxable salary income is net taxable pay minus a 10% allowance for work expenses (at least €509, at most €14,555 per person). The barème for 2026 income will be set by the loi de finances pour 2027.
Household parts (quotient familial) and décote
| Household | Parts |
|---|---|
| Single | 1 |
| Married or PACS | 2 |
| Each of the first two children | +0.5 |
| Each child from the third | +1 |
| Single parent living alone (case T) | +0.5 |
The tax saved by children is capped at €1,807 per half-part (€4,262 for the first child of a single parent). A décote reduces small tax bills: €897 (single) or €1,483 (couple) minus 45.25% of the tax, when the tax is under €1,982 or €3,277.

Frequently asked questions
How much is €40,000 brut in net?
For a single non-cadre, €40,000 gross a year leaves €29,696.84 after contributions and income tax, which is €2,474.74 a month. Of the deductions, €3,812.16 is CSG and CRDS and €1,967 is income tax. Your mutuelle, if deducted from your pay, lowers it further.
What is €3,000 brut a month in net?
€3,000 a month is €36,000 a year. A single non-cadre keeps €2,250.21 a month after contributions and income tax (€27,002.48 a year). Choose the Month period in the calculator to type a monthly salary directly.
What is the difference between cadre and non-cadre?
The statutory employee contributions are the same except that cadres also pay the APEC contribution of 0.024%. Differences in prévoyance, mutuelle and supplementary pension schemes depend on the employer's contract and collective agreement, so check your payslip; they are not modelled here.
What is net imposable?
Net imposable is the amount of your pay that is subject to income tax. It is your net pay before tax plus the non-deductible CSG and the CRDS (and the employer's share of your health cover, not included here). It appears on your payslip and on your annual tax return, and the calculator shows it in the notes under the result.
How does the prélèvement à la source work?
Your employer deducts income tax each month at the rate the tax office sends it, based on your last tax return. The calculator estimates the tax on your 2026 income at a household rate; the rate on your payslip may differ, and the balance is settled after you file your 2027 tax return.
How do children and marriage change my tax?
They add parts to the quotient familial: a couple has 2 parts, each of the first two children adds half a part and each further child a full part, and a single parent living alone gets an extra half part. More parts means lower tax, up to a cap of €1,807 per half part. Enter your household in the calculator.
Why is the 2026 barème not final?
In France income earned in 2026 is taxed with the barème voted at the end of 2026, in the loi de finances pour 2027. Until then the latest official barème is the one for 2025 income, which this calculator uses. The page will be updated when the new barème is published.
Is my mutuelle included?
No. Employee contributions to the company health insurance (mutuelle) and prévoyance depend on your employer's contract, so they are not included; check your payslip. The calculator covers statutory contributions and income tax only.
