When you need to edit the words of a PDF, a clean Word document is often more useful than a pixel copy full of text boxes. This converter reads the text of each page with pdf.js, re-joins lines into paragraphs (including words hyphenated across lines), recognises headings by their larger font size and writes a .docx with Word's own Heading 1-3 styles, so the navigation pane and a table of contents work straight away.
Be clear about what you get: the text, paragraphs and headings. Columns, tables, images, fonts, colours and exact positions are not reproduced, and each PDF page starts a new Word page. It works best for PDFs exported from a word processor, such as letters, reports and CVs.
Scanned PDFs are images and contain no text: run OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable result.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF.
- Convert all pages or type a range.
- Click Convert to Word and check the text preview.
- Download the .docx and open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read and processed by your browser on your device; nothing is sent to a server. You can load the page, switch off Wi-Fi and it still works.
Will my Word file look exactly like the PDF?
No. The tool rebuilds the text structure (paragraphs and headings), not the design. Tables, columns, images and fonts are simplified. For an exact look, keep the PDF.
Why is my Word file empty?
The PDF is probably scanned. Run OCR PDF to add a text layer, then convert again.
How are headings detected?
The most common font size on a page is taken as body text; short lines set clearly larger become Heading 1, 2 or 3 depending on how much larger they are.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Choose "Only these pages" and type ranges such as 1-3, 7.
What if my PDF is password-protected?
The tool will say so. If it is your file and you know the password, remove the protection with Unlock PDF first, then use the unlocked copy here.
