How it works

The formula is °F = °C × 9/5 + 32: multiply by 1.8, then add 32. It needs the offset because water freezes at 0 °C but 32 °F. So 25 °C is 77 °F, 37 °C (body temperature) is 98.6 °F and a 45 °C summer afternoon in the Gulf is 113 °F.

Ovens are where people most often get stuck: 180 °C is 356 °F (recipes round to 350 °F), 200 °C is 392 °F (400 °F) and 220 °C is 428 °F (425 °F). The table includes these. For a change in temperature rather than a reading, multiply by 1.8 without adding 32.

How to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

Formula: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32.

Multiply the Celsius value by 9/5 (1.8), then add 32. Worked example for a 45 °C summer day: 45 × 1.8 = 81, and 81 + 32 = 113 °F.

Multiply first, then add: adding 32 before scaling is the most common mistake. A temperature difference (a 5 °C rise, a thermostat step) converts without the offset: 5 °C of warming is 9 °F of warming.

Everyday Celsius-to-Fahrenheit examples

  • A home fridge set to 4 °C: 4 °C = 39.2 °F.
  • A comfortable indoor thermostat setting: 21 °C = 69.8 °F.
  • The fever threshold many health services use: 38 °C = 100.4 °F.
  • A moderate oven for cakes: 180 °C = 356 °F.
  • Water boiling at sea level: 100 °C = 212 °F.

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula for Celsius to Fahrenheit?

°F = °C × 9/5 + 32. Example: 30 °C × 1.8 = 54, plus 32 = 86 °F.

What is a quick mental estimate?

Double it and add 30: 20 °C → 70 °F (exact 68). The error grows at high temperatures, so use the exact formula for cooking.

What is 180 °C in Fahrenheit?

356 °F. Recipes usually round it to 350 °F, which is 176.7 °C.

Is 38 °C a fever?

It is 100.4 °F, the threshold many health services use to define a fever. This page only converts the number; ask a clinician about symptoms.
