Social platforms and forms each want a particular shape: a square profile picture, a 4:5 Instagram portrait, a 16:9 thumbnail, a 9:16 story. Pick an aspect preset and the crop box keeps that shape while you move and resize it, or choose Free and type exact X, Y, width and height in pixels.

Circle crop makes a round image with transparent corners, saved as PNG, which is what most avatar and team-page layouts need. You can also rotate by 90° and flip before cropping, so a sideways phone photo can be fixed in the same step. The crop is applied to the full-resolution image in a background thread, with EXIF orientation already applied.

How to use it

  1. Drop a photo or click to browse.
  2. Choose an aspect ratio, or Free for any shape. Tick Circle crop for a round avatar.
  3. Drag inside the box to move it and drag the handles to resize, or type exact pixel values. Keyboard: focus the box or a handle and use the arrow keys.
  4. Rotate or flip if needed, pick the output format and click Crop image.
  5. Download the cropped file.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping reduce quality?

Cropping itself keeps every pixel inside the box as it was. The file is re-encoded when saved, so choose PNG for lossless output or JPG at 90% or higher for photos.

Why is the circle crop a PNG?

The corners outside the circle have to be transparent, and JPG cannot store transparency. PNG keeps them see-through.

Which pixel coordinates do the inputs use?

X and Y are measured from the top-left corner of the image after any rotation or flip you applied, in the image's full-resolution pixels.

Can I crop to an exact size like 1080 × 1080?

Choose 1:1 and type 1080 as the width, as long as the photo is at least that big. If you need to scale the crop to a size larger or smaller than the selected area, run the result through the image resizer.
