Receipt

A receipt confirms that money changed hands: who paid whom, when, how much, by what method and for what. Enter the items, the amount actually paid and the payment method, and the receipt shows the total, the amount received and either the balance still due or the excess paid, with a status of paid in full, partly paid or not paid.

Useful for rent, tuition, deposits, freelance work paid in cash, and part payments where both sides need a record of what is left. Add the cheque or transfer reference so the payment can be traced.

Where you are VAT-registered, a receipt does not replace a tax invoice; use the invoice generator for that. Amounts are rounded to two decimals.

How to use it

  1. Enter your name or business and who paid.
  2. Set the receipt number, payment date, method and reference.
  3. Add the items, then type the amount actually paid.
  4. Check the balance and click Print / Save as PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save it as a PDF?

Click Print / Save as PDF and choose "Save as PDF" (Chrome, Edge) or the PDF button (macOS) as the printer. Only the document is printed; the rest of the page is hidden.

How is the balance worked out?

Total (items plus VAT at your rate) minus the amount paid. If the payment is larger than the total, the receipt shows the excess instead of a balance.

Can I issue a receipt for a deposit?

Yes. List the full price as the item and enter the deposit as the amount paid; the receipt shows the balance due.

Is a receipt the same as an invoice?

No. An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms it. Tax authorities usually set rules for invoices, so check what yours requires.

Is anything I type stored or sent?

No. The document is built in your browser as you type and disappears when you close or reload the page. Save the PDF if you need a copy.
