Listening instead of reading helps with proofreading your own writing, getting through long articles, learning pronunciation and giving your eyes a rest. This page reads your text aloud with the Web Speech API, which uses the voices that come with your operating system and browser. The sentence being spoken is highlighted so you can follow along, and you can pause, resume or stop at any time.
Voices differ from device to device. Windows, macOS, iOS and Android include several languages, and Arabic voices are available on most of them (sometimes as an extra download in the system's speech or language settings). The voice list shows which voices are local to your device and which are "online" voices provided by the browser vendor, which may send the text to its speech service.
One honest limitation: browsers play synthesised speech but do not let web pages capture it, so there is no MP3 download here. Any site that offers one from the same API is recording your speakers or using a paid server-side voice.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text, or try the English or Arabic sample.
- Choose the voice language and a voice. For Arabic text, pick a voice whose language starts with "ar".
- Set the speed and pitch, then press Play. Use Pause, Resume and Stop as needed.
- Follow the highlighted sentence in the read-along panel below the controls.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I see different voices than on my other device?
The voices are provided by your operating system and browser, not by this site. Chrome adds some online Google voices, Edge adds Microsoft's online voices, and Safari uses the voices installed on your Mac or iPhone.
How do I get an Arabic voice?
On Windows, add Arabic in Settings > Time & language > Speech. On macOS, System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > System voice > Manage voices. On iPhone, Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices. On Android, install Arabic in the Google speech services (text-to-speech) settings. Reload this page afterwards.
Can I download the speech as MP3?
No. The Web Speech API plays audio directly through your speakers and gives pages no access to the sound, so a real download is not possible without a server-side voice service.
Is my text sent anywhere?
With local voices, no: speech is generated on your device. Voices marked "online" (for example Google voices in Chrome or natural voices in Edge) send the text to that company's speech service to be spoken.
Why does it stop on long texts?
Some engines stop after about 15 seconds of continuous speech, so the text is spoken sentence by sentence and very long sentences are split at commas. If a voice still stops, try a local voice.
