Tenders, theses, court bundles and board packs usually need numbered pages. Choose where the number goes (six positions), how it reads ("1", "Page 1", "Page 1 of 12", "1 of 12" or "1 / 12"), the first number, the page to start on and the size, and a preview shows the label on the first numbered page before you save.
Start numbering on page 2 or 3 to skip a cover or contents page; the total in "of N" then counts only the numbered pages. The distance from the edge is set in millimetres, so the number clears binding margins and printer edges. Pages that are stored rotated are handled so the number reads the right way up on screen.
Numbers are written in Helvetica, one of the standard PDF fonts, as real text on each page. The rest of the page is not re-rendered, so quality and selectable text are kept.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF.
- Pick the position and format, then set the first number and the page where numbering starts.
- Adjust the font size and the distance from the edge, and check the preview.
- Click Add page numbers and download the numbered PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. The file is read and processed by your browser on your device; nothing is sent to a server. You can load the page, switch off Wi-Fi and it still works.
Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?
Yes. Set "Start numbering on page" to 2. The first number printed on page 2 is whatever you choose as the first number, usually 1 or 2.
Will the number cover my content?
It can if the page has content right at the edge. Increase the distance from the edge or choose another position; the preview shows where it will go.
Can I use a different font?
Not in this version. Helvetica is used because every PDF reader has it and it keeps the file small.
Does this work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. The number is drawn on top of the page image.
