Background chatter, wind noise, copyrighted music or a private conversation are common reasons to share a video without its sound. This tool removes the audio track entirely rather than turning the volume down, so nothing of the original sound can be recovered from the file.

The picture is not re-encoded. FFmpeg copies the video stream bit for bit into a new file of the same type (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI or 3GP) and leaves the audio out, which takes seconds even for large files and keeps the original quality. Only if a stream cannot be copied does the tool fall back to re-encoding it as H.264 MP4, and the result says so.

How to use it

  1. Drop the video or click to browse.
  2. Check the preview to confirm it is the right file.
  3. Click Remove audio. A stream copy usually finishes in a few seconds.
  4. Download the silent video. It keeps the original container and resolution.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing the audio reduce quality?

No. The video stream is copied without decoding, so every frame is identical to the original. The file also gets smaller by the size of the audio track.

Can I remove only part of the audio?

Not with this tool; it removes the whole track. To keep the sound but cut a section, trim the video into parts with the Video Trimmer.

Can I keep the audio as a separate file?

Yes. Run the same video through Video to MP3 to save the soundtrack before muting.

Is the video uploaded?

No. The file is processed on your device by FFmpeg running in the browser.
