A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests, customers or family join your network by pointing their phone camera at it: no reading out long passwords. Both iPhone (iOS 11 and later) and Android camera apps recognise the standard "WIFI:" format this tool produces and offer to connect.
The format has a catch: a backslash, semicolon, comma, colon or double quote in the network name or password must be escaped, or phones read the wrong password and fail to connect. This generator escapes them correctly and checks the basics, such as WPA passwords being 8 to 63 characters, before drawing the code.
The QR code is generated in your browser with the same library as our QR code generator, so your network name and password are not sent anywhere. Remember that anyone who can see the printed code can join the network; for visitors, consider a separate guest network.
How to use it
- Type the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in the Wi-Fi list, including capital letters and spaces.
- Choose the security type (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost all home and office routers) and type the password.
- Tick "Hidden network" only if your router does not broadcast the name.
- Download the PNG or SVG, test it with your phone camera, then print it or show it on screen.
Frequently asked questions
Which phones can scan a Wi-Fi QR code?
iPhones with iOS 11 or later and most Android phones from Android 10 onwards can join directly from the camera or the Quick Settings QR scanner. Older Android phones may need Google Lens or a scanner app.
My router uses WPA3. Which option do I choose?
Choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3. The QR format uses the same "WPA" value for all of them, and the phone negotiates the right protocol when it connects.
Is it safe to type my Wi-Fi password here?
The code is built in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored. The printed QR code itself contains the password in plain text, so treat it like a written-down password.
Why does my phone say it cannot join the network?
Usually the name or password does not match exactly (they are case-sensitive), or the security type is wrong. Check both, regenerate the code, and make sure you are within range of the network.
