A document made in the US arrives on Letter paper and your printer, or the portal you are uploading to, expects A4; a scanned bundle mixes page sizes; a booklet needs A5 pages. Choose the new paper size and every page is put on it: A4, US Letter, A5, A3, US Legal, or any custom width and height in millimetres.

Scale to fit enlarges or shrinks the content of each page so it fills the new page without distortion, centred; Letter content on A4 is shrunk to about 97%. Keep the size only shrinks content that would not fit and otherwise centres it at 100% with white margins, which is what you want when adding space around pages. An optional margin keeps a band clear on every side, for binding or printer edges. Automatic orientation lets landscape pages stay landscape.

Nothing is turned into an image. Each page's content is wrapped in one transformation and the page boxes are replaced, so text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp, and links, comments and form fields move with the content. Pages stored with a rotation are handled so they still display the right way up.

Changing the paper size changes how big things print. Scaling a Letter page to A4 is invisible, but shrinking an A3 drawing onto A4 halves its text height, so check the preview and the percentage shown before you print. To cut away margins instead of scaling, use Crop PDF.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF; the first page is previewed on the new size.
  2. Pick the new page size (or type a custom width and height in mm) and the orientation.
  3. Choose whether to scale content to fit or keep it at 100%, and add a margin if you need one.
  4. Click Resize PDF and download the file.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. The file is read and processed by your browser on your device; nothing is sent to a server. The PDF engine is downloaded from this site the first time you use a tool and then runs on your device.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. The page content is scaled as vector graphics, not converted to an image, so text stays selectable and searchable and the file size barely changes.

What happens to pages of different sizes?

Every page gets the new size. With Scale to fit each page is scaled on its own, so a mixed bundle of Letter, A4 and Legal pages comes out as uniform A4 pages.

Is this the same as cropping?

No. Crop PDF cuts away part of the page; Resize PDF keeps all of the content and changes the paper it sits on, scaling it if needed.

Do links and form fields still work?

Yes. Links, comments and form fields are moved and scaled together with the content, so they stay over the right words and boxes.

Can I make pages bigger without enlarging the content?

Choose "Keep the size" and a larger paper: content stays at 100% and is centred, with white space around it, for example to add room for notes or binding.

What if my PDF is password-protected?

The tool will say so. If it is your file and you know the password, remove the protection with Unlock PDF first, then use the unlocked copy here.
